Back to the hills.

Wed, 16th Jan – 8.7km Recovery Run
A nice easy recovery run where i was limited with time. Thankfully these runs are now back to the effort expected and i no longer feel like I'm trudging around. More good news with the fact that my sore calf from last night appears fine now.

Thurs, 17th Jan – 11.4km Hill Run - Shankill to Scalp

For some reason on what proved to be a very stormy night I  decided to join the Boards group again heading for the hills of South Dublin. We met up in Shankill, a village I'd never been to before. This is the start/end of the Dublin Mountains Way and Krusty, our host for the evening, was about to take us for a run up through his outdoor playground! Luckily most of the route was pretty well sheltered and so we rarely felt the full brunt of the gale force winds. We were across the M11 and past Rathmichael in no time and then it was onto the trails proper. We passed up through Rathmichael woods and across to Barnaslingan hill where we were greeted with a drizzly, cloudy view of Dublin at night. En route to this point we also briefly stopped off at Ballycorus Leadmines and it's flue chimney ruins. Again, on a normal day we would have had a great vista over Dublin and the Bay but 'twas not to be tonight!

On our return back Krusty brought us on one final detour to the top of Carrickgollogan hill. Here the full force of the wind was felt and for a short while we struggled to stand still. Then it was a nice run back down to our starting point. An enjoyable but extremely muddy run. The terrain was a little too technical though which meant there was a bit too much stop/start at times for me. Overall well worth it though and can't wait to get back in the brighter days to give the whole Dublin Mountains Way a go.

Week 3 Summary (to date):
RTW: 4 from 4 days
DTW: 50.2km
DTY: 183.6km
